Summer 2016 Courses

Camp iPad (Lead Instructors: SVVSD Teachers + ITC team)

Come learn from your fellow teachers within SVVSD and some amazing outside professionals on how to effectively integrate the use of technology in a 1:1 environment. You may take this course a second or third time, as each year we will have different presenters and different topics.

  1. Conceptualize the impact instructional technology can have on teaching, learning and classroom culture.
  2. Reflect upon and analyze their own practice so that they can implement at least one  redesigned unit or lesson with students in the fall.
  3. Develop and participate in a SVVSD culture of collaboration where individuals share best practices and access each other for technical support.
  4. Practice and demonstrate digital habits and citizenship

Elementary Tech Camp (Lead Instructors: SVVSD Teachers + ITC Team)

Pre-K through 5th grade educational staff are invited to join us for two outstanding days of learning full of hands on sessions, panel discussions and thoughtful presentations. Participants will walk away with multiple ways to transform their small group instruction with a variety of technology tools (Chromebooks, iOS devices & Macs + more).

Master Your Mac (Lead Instructor: Jennifer Anderson)

So you’ve got a Mac. Now what? Come and learn how to make the most of your Mac as a productivity and an instructional tool. By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Navigate, find, and organize information and applications
  • Explore shortcuts and tricks that will help you make the most of your computer
  • Use built in tools to meet the needs of diverse learners

Building Books with iBooks Author (Lead Instructor: Steph Schroeder)

Learn to create your own interactive books using Apple’s iBook Author. In this course, you will:

  • Learn the tools and processes for building content with iBooks Author
  • Explore open educational resources that can be incorporated into a book
  • Create and export a book that can be loaded onto an iPad iOS Courses

Getting Started with the iPad  (Instructors: Steph Schroeder & Ben Kalb)

This class will cover the basics of getting started with iOS devices such as the iPad in the classroom. As part of this class, you will learn to:

  • navigate and organize content on an iOS device
  • use accessibility features and settings to customize your iOS device
  • manage media and content to be synced using iTunes
  • understand how to access and share student work from an iOS device
  • explore multimedia content from iTunesU and YouTube
  • discover free and low cost apps to use in your instruction

Apple Vanguard Program Authentic Learning For Your Classroom (Instructors: Mary Ellen Graziani & Ben Kalb)

The Vanguard Program will explore the Apple iWorks Suite through the lens of 21st Century Survival Skills.  In this course you will have time to learn new tools, apply them in your classroom and reflect upon how the instructional application met the needs of 21st Century learners.  Upon completion of this course all teachers will become Apple Vanguard Members with a certificate affirming their knowledge and instructional application of Apple productivity and creativity tools.

Essential Question: How can we use strategies and tools to help create authentic student products that enhance student skill in the area of: communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking?
