What is Phishing?

Phishing is when someone on the Internet tries to trick you into giving them your personal information, like your name, your usernames, or your passwords, by acting like someone you would trust.

  • Sometimes they use a false email that looks like it is sent from someone you know.
  • Sometimes they use a real email from someone else they have already tricked.
  • Sometimes they build false websites or ads that look exactly like real ones.

What should you do?

The best way to avoid phishing is to change the way you browse the web.

  • If an email asks you to log into a site you have never been to before, ask your teacher or parent to see if it is real.
  • When someone sends you a web address, rather than clicking on it, type the address you know in the address bar of your Internet browser.

What should you do if you think you were tricked by phishing?

Change your password to a new more complex password and never use the old one again, ever!

  • Your St.Vrain password can be changed from the Password Manager button on Ceran.
