Follow Up on El Chapo

by Jillian Myers and Katie Love

According to CNN news, El Chapo not only wants to be extradited from Mexico to the United States, but he wants to come sooner than later. They plan that he will be in the United States within 2-3 months. El Chapo complains that he is being tortured. He states “Every two hours, at night, they wake me up to take roll. They are turning me into a zombie. They do not let me sleep. All I want is just for them to let me sleep.”

Others have different opinions on the subject. “Mr. Guzman Loera should not be extradited to the United States or any other country,” attorney Juan Pablo Badillo said. He continued, “Mexico has just laws that are detailed in the General Constitution of the Republic.” Many people feel that El Chapo should not be able to leave the prison he is currently in.

The Zika Virus

by Kaylee Fabini

There are many viruses around the world, Zika is one of them. Zika is a virus that mosquitoes transfer to people after they bite, you then become infected. Women that are pregnant are at risk because if they get bit by a mosquito that has Zika, their child can have birth defects (most likely a deformed head).

There is no vaccine or medicine to prevent or to treat the infection. The only way you can really protect yourself from Zika is to avoid traveling to areas with the virus. But, if you are traveling or living in an area where the Zika virus is present, then the least you can do is wear long sleeve shirts and long pants, wear bug spray, and stay indoors in the early morning and late evening. Most of these areas are in South America. Zika has arrived in the United States because of travelers returning from infected areas. Researchers in laboratories around the world are working hard to try and create a vaccine for the virus.

The Rio Summer Olympics will not be cancelled because of the Zika virus. If an athlete doesn’t want to go, then they can just not go. They aren’t going to be forced to go. The athletes that aren’t going to the Olympics are deciding this because they don’t want to get this virus, it is even sometimes deadly. I think that the Rio Summer Olympics should be moved somewhere else because it’s not worth it to risk lots of people getting sick. Also if people go to the Olympics, and then they go back to their original country, they might bring the virus with them and infect others. I think that the Olympics should be moved somewhere else, and that scientists need to make a vaccine or some kind of medicine to treat this virus.

Why digital learning is better for students

by Alexandro Dominguez

Digital learning has always been a huge issue because some parents say it’s bad and other parents think it’s best for the students. I am here to explain why digital learning is better for each and every student in school. We live in a digital world, so in the future when technology becomes more advanced we will be prepared because we used technology in our classes. We also have instant access to information and websites we wouldn’t normally be able to access. Sometimes digital learning can help with shyness because we could all get put on a discussion online and discuss about the topic or whatever the question the teacher is asking.

According to a study by IT TRADE Association CompTIA, around 75 percent of educators think that digital learning has a positive impact on learning. It can also make learning fun because some students are intrigued and less bored because of the virtual lessons or videos. Another study proved digital learning helps retain information because sixteen out of the eighteen 2nd graders remembered more information about the animal after the powerpoint. Students also get to choose the pace while learning and that is an extremely important part because now students don’t have to wait for others or rush just to catch up. Now they can just go in their own pace and can take their time to get whatever they need to get done, they also don’t rush so this can lead to higher grades.

What’s the Story Behind Agar.io?

by Katie Love, David Smith-Tomassoni and Jillian Myers

1_agario[1]

Agar.io was released near the end of April 2015 and since has grown at an amazing rate. Now, according to AgarioZone, no matter what time you play, a minimum of about 10,000 players are on each server. This game was released on steam for free.

In the game, you play as a cell who eats other cells to increase in mass, while also avoiding larger cells. Spiked green circles generated randomly into the classic map are called viruses. Viruses break your cell if they come into contact, and can be shot at other players too, for a harder twist. There is a leaderboard to show who has the highest mass. You can also change the icon of the cell by using special names programmed to show photos.

The game is available for download on IOS and Android, and now has added a feature in which you can link your Facebook account for bonus features.

The rate at which this game has grown is amazing. The simplicity behind the game is also captivating.

Our Fashion; Giving Back

by Jillian Myers

Save the elephants

Recently, many of our fashion trends have based themselves around organizations that give back to charities. Whether you know it or not, there’s a great chance you own one of these products, and have been helping to make a difference too.

Trrtlz, a popular brand that has the slogan, “Share your adventure,” donates their bracelets to charities, foundations, and people looking to make the world a better place. They claim that even though their $1 bracelets don’t pay every bill, the friendships that may spark are priceless. Their goal is to preserve wildlife, research, and to take the small steps to a greater change.

Next, Ivory Ella is a company that donates 10% of the money it makes to elephant funds such as the Elephant Crisis Fund and M.I.K.E, an organization that monitors the illegal killing of elephants. They have collectively raised over $165,000, and hope to put an end to ivory poaching.

Lastly, Live Lokai also donates 10% of its profits to charity. While they always have the classic bracelet, occasionally the company releases limitededition colored bracelets that donate to a specific charity. As of now, there’s a new purple Lokai that donates $1 to the Alzheimer’s Association each time one of these bracelets are purchased.

The Freeze in Oil Production

by Echo Prechtl-Graham

“At the moment the best possible feasible proposal is to freeze at the level of production of January,” Al-Sada said in an exclusive interview with CNN Money on Thursday. “We think a production freeze will gather more and more approval because it is in the interest of all parties.”

Five of the 13 OPEC members and Russia have agreed to keep output steady. The idea of freezing production is that these countries will be able to fight off a global reserve, and save their endangered eimgres-2conomy.

But the oil markets within OPEC are continually being rattled. Iran has stated that the production freeze is a “joke” but, Saudi Arabia says it is not prepared to cut output.

Iran has decided to ramp up oil production now that their “restriction” has been lifted. But the country’s return couldn’t have been at a worse time because of the excess supply that’s already drowning the world. Crude oil prices have plunged 70% since 2014, and have twice dipped below $27 per barrel this year.

The situation is currently “absolutely not a sustainable one,” but a year from now prices may top $50 a barrel. OPEC is producing over 500,000 barrels per day since the higher costing oil has come off the market

How does caffeine affect students?

by Kaylee Fabini

Caffeine is found in coffee, tea, energy drinks, soda, energy bars,  chocolate and many other things. It is very popular for students to use as a  study aid. The consumption of caffeine has both positive and negative  effects.

One of the positive effects is that it increases alertness. It allows  students to stay focused as they study. Caffeine works in your brain by  blocking a chemical called adenosine. That means that the intake of it  increases a feeling of mental alertness. As a result, the intake of caffeine  can temporarily boost your study skills as a student.

A negative effect is that it causes irregular sleeping patterns. Using  caffeine as a study aid, especially in the afternoon or evening, can lead to  harmful effects on your sleep cycle. Taking caffeine before bed can make it  almost impossible to fall asleep for a certain amount of time. To avoid  irregular sleep hours from caffeine, you can stop using caffeine even if it is  for a study aid. You also shouldn’t have caffeine four to six hours before  going to bed.

The reason why there might be negative effects as you take  caffeine is because you might be consuming too much of it. Consuming too  much caffeine has negative effects such as  anxiety, restlessness, stomach cramps, upset stomach, headache,  dehydration, irritability, and racing heart. These effects can prevent you  from staying on task at school.

In my opinion, caffeine seems bad for you. Because you have  irregular sleep patterns, don’t feel good, and many other things. Even  though caffeine can be used as a study aide, it isn’t good for you.

How Does After School Activities Affect Your Education?

What impact does after school activities have on our education? We believe that after school activities can boost your confidence, help with your social interactions, and improve your concentration. In addition, we also think that after school activities help students find friends and encourage them to do what they enjoy.

What are some positive effects of after school activities? When students engage in extracurricular activities, they can meet many friends who have common interests. Students may start different groups where they can work on homework with each other and help each other. Studies show that studying in groups can increase how much a student will remember. This could help others remember what is needed for the test, odds are they will ace it.

However, there are some negative effects to after school activities. When doing your homework and studying for upcoming assessments, it may be difficult to balance your school assignments and the after school activities. Some after school activities don’t end until late in the afternoon allowing kids to slack off on homework and other important assignments. When this happens, kids may not be getting the best grades.

After school activities may be distracting and could lead to students being distracted in school. However, this depends on the type of student you are.

“El Chapo’s” Many Escapes

Written by David Smith-Tomassoni, Katie Love, and Jillian Myers

El Chapo

Joaquin Guzman, otherwise known as “El Chapo” has escaped imprisonment twice, according to CBS News. The Mexican drug-lord made his first escape in 2001 through a laundry cart, and his second escape has encouraged increased security measures.

El Chapo’s last escape was through a tunnel he dug in his cell while in Antiplano prison last year. The tunnel was 1,600 yards long, almost over 5 ½ feet tall, and resurfaced in a house being built in a nearby neighborhood.

Now, he is forced to constantly change rooms and walk around the prison to avoid more tunnels being created. During his first five nights at the prison, he stayed in seven different cells at random intervals of time, claims CNN News .
