Do I need to activate a District Mental Health Response?
Definition of Trauma Response:
A traumatic situation of social and emotional impact to a school and community that has the potential to or already has overwhelmed the internal resources to support students and staff.
Items to consider before activation:
- Student impact
- Counseling staff impact
- Teacher impact
- Community impact
- Direct vs. Indirect trauma (How many persons are directly impacted/how many by proximity)
- Expected duration of incident
- Assistance with communication and additional support resources
- Level of assistance required
Mission of the District Mental Health Response Team-
Short term stabilization unit to manage and restore equilibrium in a school environment to a level at which internal resources can manage the remnants of a crisis with in-place supports i.e. 3rd party agencies, counselor, interventionist, etc…
