SCHS weekly blog for March 9th

Silver Creek High School

Weekly Update for Friday, March 9th

Important Information Regarding CSAP/TCAP

The TCAP (formally CSAP) is an annual assessment used by the state of Colorado to award accreditation to all public schools.  At Silver Creek we pride ourselves on being recognized as a “Performance Accreditation” school,  which is the highest designation a school receives.  This accreditation status is determined by our students’ results on the TCAP assessment, results on the ACT, along with the dropout rate and graduation rate.

TCAP results in Reading, Writing, Math and Science help teaching staff to develop a body of evidence in regards to individual student achievement.  This information allows us to assess both strengths and areas needing improvement for individual students and our school as a whole.

We encourage your sons and daughters to do their best.  Silver Creek students are prepared for this assessment.  Please insure that your child receives a good night’s rest and breakfast to fuel them for the morning testing sessions.  And please help them arrive on time to avoid the necessity of make-up testing.

TCAP/CSAP testing will take place on March 13, 14, 15 and 20.  Freshmen are scheduled for testing on March 13, 14, 15.  If your freshman would like to attend school between the hours of 7:15 an 11:25 on March 20, we will have supervision for them in the gymnasium and library.  Freshmen attendance on March 20 from 7:15-11:25 is optional, unless a student needs to make up a test.  All freshmen are expected to attend regularly scheduled classes on March 20 from 12:05-2:15.

Sophomores are scheduled for testing on March 13, 14, 15, 20.  Sophomores are also assessed in Science, requiring the extra day of testing.

Please see the link for the TCAP Schedule.  Two classes will occur in the afternoon each day.  All students (freshmen-senior) must be in attendance for afternoon classes from 12:05-2:15 on March 13, 14, 15, 20.

Important Information Regarding Junior ACT Preparation and Test

Junior ACT preparation will also be occurring on March 13, 14, 15, 20.  All juniors must be in attendance for the full day on March 13, 14, 15 and 20.  On March 13 we will kick off this event at 7:15 a.m. with Princeton Review providing the results of practice tests as well as test-taking strategies that will benefit all students.  Juniors will begin each day in the auditorium at 7:15 a.m. for a quick lesson related to ACT and then be released to their ACT subject-specific classroom.  Juniors will follow a four-day rotation of related test-taking strategies, content review and individual test preparation.  Each day your junior student will receive a full morning of instruction focused on one of four areas of the ACT: English, Math, Science, Reading.  Silver Creek instructors will provide the preparation free of charge.  Junior students will break for lunch from 11:00-12:00 each day.  All juniors must return by 12:05 each day for normally scheduled classes that occur from 12:05-2:15.  LINK to a Colorado Colleges and Universities letter for all junior students participating in the ACT this year on April 24.
