Weekly Update for Friday, December 18th

Announcing Silver Creek High School’s New Mission Statement

Silver Creek High School is an inclusive community committed to leadership and excellence in academics, the arts, and athletics.

Principal’s Letter

Raptor Families,
I want to thank each and every one of you for a fantastic first semester at Silver Creek High School!  Our students continue to go above and beyond in their accomplishments and our teachers continue to rise to the occasion in serving our school community.
One only need to open a Longmont Times Call to hear about the wonderful things occurring at Silver Creek.  A short list includes a National Merit Semi-Finalist, six out of seven athletic teams making the postseason in the fall, the largest number of All-State Musicians in school history, our band appearing on the nationally syndicated Making Monsters, the first ever student Hackathon, a number one statewide ranking for our school library, a regional victory for our We the People team, and a state championship in football.  All worthy accolades further extolling our commitment to the whole child.  We also recently improved our ranking in coloradoschoolgrades.com , and narrowly edged other local schools for the top 3A/4A ranking in St. Vrain.  All of this is attributable to the dedication of our students, staff and families and the importance that is placed upon education everyday at home and at school.
While our school continues to achieve great heights, we realize that the number one job is maintaining a safe and healthy environment for your children.  Please take a moment to reinforce with your child that if he/she sees things that are suspicious, dangerous or uncomfortable, to report any such issue immediately to an adult.  Students are also encouraged to use Safe2Tell to anonymously report any malicious behavior.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the fellow children, teachers and community at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  And, our dedication to education and providing a healthy and safe environment shines brightly.

We wish your families a restful and peaceful winter break.  Let’s make 2013 our best year, yet, at Silver Creek!

Sincerely,

Erick Finnestead

FREE Gift Wrapping!

Dear Silver Creek parents and extended family,
Given how busy all of you are, we’d like to offer to take at least one task off your plate  this holiday season. The Silver Creek chapter of the National Honor Society will be providing free gift wrapping in the Silver Creek Commons on Wednesday, December 19th, from 5 – 8 p.m. All you have to do is bring your presents in, since we’ll have all the wrapping paper, bows, ribbon, etc. to make them look beautiful. If you decide that you’d like to make a donation for this service, we’d be happy to accept anything you care to give, and we’ll donate that money directly to A Woman’s Work (www.awomanswork.org), a wonderful Longmont non-profit that provides emergency financial assistance to local women and their families. Please feel free to contact Michael Sardinia at sardinia_michael@svvsd.org if you have any questions. Thanks and Happy Holidays!!

SOLES4SOULS

Please Clean Out Your Closets and Send Us Your Shoes

Once again, Silver Creek is sponsoring a SHOE DRIVE to benefit SOLES4SOULS!  This American based community service organization supplies shoes to people in need in over 127 countries on 5 continents!  Over 300 million children around the world are without shoes.  New and gently used shoes are sent directly to distribution hubs.  Old shoes considered “ONE MAN’S TRASH AND ANOTHER MAN’S TREASURE” are used in an exciting initiative to help break the cycle of poverty.  They are donated to micro-enterprise programs and generated into recycled materials for local entrepreneurs to re-sell or trade for goods in their communities.  For many, this can mean the difference between life and death.  So take this opportunity to dig up your unwanted … too big … or too small … flip flops, crocs, high heels, dress shoes, slippers, boots, cleats, or sneakers and load up our collection boxes.  We’ll even be happy to take all those OLD STINKY ones!  Please keep them in pairs by tying them together or securing them with a rubber band.  Thanks for your help!
