As always there are more accolades that our students, staff and school have received; far too many to list.  An impressive list nonetheless and a solid demonstration of excellence.

I would like to thank our parents for your continued support in SCOPA, RABC and The Silver Creek Education Foundation.  These parent groups have raised well over $100,000 to support our students this year. There is no question, that with this support we are able to achieve new heights and provide our kids more opportunities!

As we look forward to August we already busily preparing for the arrival of the Class of 2017.  We will be adding some new faces amongst our staff and also adding opportunities such as: Chinese Language, AP Environmental Science, and Honors Physics.

Lastly, a gracious goodbye to the Class of 2013.  You had a terrific four year run in establishing Silver Creek as one of the pre-eminent schools within the St. Vrain Valley, within Colorado, and within the United States.  You will be missed.  Your shoes will not be filled, but you have laid the foundation for others to follow in continuing our improvement of our school, community, and world.

Counseling News

Dear Students and Parents,

After seven years of joy and hard work, I regret to inform you that this is my last year at Silver Creek. Next year, I will be transitioning to a new counseling opportunity at a different high school in the district. The Silver Creek community is made up of incredible teachers, students and families; I have learned so much from all of you, and I will miss this outstanding school! In my stead, I’d like to introduce Judith Thomas. Judith has been in the district for 8 years, at Westview Middle School, and she will work with next year’s alpha A-Go. We will do our best to create a smooth transition, and please welcome her and give her the time needed to build productive relationships.

To the many students I have worked with so closely, a heartfelt thank you for being part of my journey. Keep moving forward toward the bright futures I see you all striving for!!

With warmth,

Barbara Norrbom

Fines and Fees

As we approach the end of another school year, many students have accrued various fees and fines. Fees are accrued for unpaid athletics and/or classroom fees.  Fines are accrued when students fail to return textbooks, novels, or other classroom materials checked out to them.  Information regarding the outstanding item is available to you on RevTrak, which may be accessed via the district website. You may also pay by check or cash at the front desk.   If your child failed to return a textbook or it is damaged beyond repair, the listed fee is the replacement cost.  You do not have to pay the fee if you return the book.  If you have established a payment plan, please consider this a reminder to make a payment at this time.  If you would like to establish a payment plan, or have questions, please contact Lois Davis at 720-494-3721 or email davis_lois@svvsd.org.

  Silver Creek High School

Weekly Update for Friday, May 10th

Leaders in Training submitted to Longmont Times-Call

Let me tell you a secret. Silver Creek’s graduating seniors are extraordinary!

As Principal of Silver Creek High School, I spend most of my waking hours with young people. I see their drive, compassion and teamwork.

We can all be proud of the class of 2013. They’ve worked hard and accomplished great things for themselves, their schools, and our community.

The accomplishments of Silver Creek seniors are numerous:

–         Advanced Placement Scholars

–         State championships in football and discus

–         Multiple all-state musicians

–         Millions of dollars in awarded scholarships including the Gates Millennium

–         Acceptance to prestigious institutions such as University of Colorado, Colorado State University, MIT, Stanford, the US Naval Academy, Denver University, Colorado School of Mines, Hofstra, Duke, Bates, and Claremont.

–         Eighteen national letters of intent have been signed to play collegiate athletics

–         Over six-thousand hours of community service

–         Establishing their own businesses, in the spirit of entrepreneurialism

–         Ultimately graduating from a public school that has been recognized by both US News and World Report and Newsweek as a top public school.

But there’s more. Something really special.

This year’s class of graduates includes the District’s first graduating cohort of the Silver Creek Leadership Academy (SCLA), an academic focus program that is teaching young men and women the foundations of leadership. SCLA students focus on leadership skills such as: ethics, communication, teamwork, creative and critical thinking, vision, and respect, culminating in a senior capstone project.

Four years ago, these students made a decision to engage in the four-year leadership curriculum. As they conclude their capstone projects, it’s obvious that their high school years were truly meaningful.

Observing our capstone projects at first glance you may see:

·         A trailer full of shoes

·         A work van with a teenager at the wheel

·         Two young women standing around a soccer pitch

·         A young man asking for money from adults

·         Playing hooky at the golf course

Dig a little deeper and what you’ll find is truly amazing!

That trailer full of 4000 pairs of shoes will be deployed to impoverished areas of our country and throughout the world to help establish micro re-manufacturing, allowing people to cultivate skills, provide footwear at low cost, and provide a living for someone else.

That teenager at the wheel of the work van has been studiously mapping and testing the infrastructure of Longmont’s very own fiber optic network.

The two young women on the soccer pitch gave up weekends to share the game with children who could ill afford a soccer camp on their own.

The young man making pitches throughout the fundraising community was successful at raising over $3000 to bring Rachel’s Challenge to his high school, a transformative program celebrating diversity and building a community of inclusion for all children.

For those playing hooky at the golf course, they raised over $6000 for local charity.

We are incredibly grateful to our community for helping establish SCLA and for continuing to support our schools.  There is no better way we can give back to a community, than by mobilizing our student leaders and helping to strengthen local non-profits, businesses, and municipal services.

Congratulations to the SCLA inaugural class. And to all the supporters who have helped create a successful “focus” for our school and community – congratulations for your insight.  Please be our guest Monday May 13, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm as we share our SCLA Night of Excellence and let our students present on behalf of their senior capstone projects.

Please Clean Out Your Closets and Send Us Your Shoes

The totals are in and together … WE DID IT!  The original goal for this SCLA Senior Capstone Project was to collect “2013” pairs of shoes in honor of this year’s graduating class.  After all shoe donations have been collected, sorted, counted, bagged, and delivered … we are so excited to announce the GRAND TOTOAL was “4127” PAIRS OF SHOES!!!!!  And there’s more good news!  Soles4Souls recently announced it would like to recognize Silver Creek High School, the Silver Creek Leadership Academy, and Valarie Allman & Anthony Emberley (in combination with all of the local schools, businesses, and individuals) who have so generously helped to support this project… by selecting them to be one of their national “ROCKSTAR DONORS” !!!  Their project will be featured on the Soles4Souls Website, Facebook, & Twitter.

Valarie and Anthony are so grateful to the many people who have contributed to the success of this Global Shoe Recycling community service project.  This local cross-school collaboration, combined with ongoing partnerships with businesses and the outpouring of individual contributions, has created a force of goodwill and brought life to their campaign to “Let Someone Follow in Your Footsteps”.  Valerie and Anthony thank all the individual foot-soldiers in Soles4Souls mission of “Changing Lives One Pair at a Time”.  Throughout this school year, there have been 25 different collection sites and shoe donation events uniting to surpass the goal:
