Weekly Update for Friday, October 31st

RABC News

If you missed the last RABC meeting then let me fill you in on some exciting stuff that is going on & I know you will want to be a part of!

First, we want to say THANK YOU to all of the activities for their amazing job with concessions this Fall!  It was so great to see so many new faces join in and help out when it was their activity’s turn to work.  A huge thank you to all the coaches, parent reps, managers, & Heather Burgess for making the new system a success!!!  *We are accepting volunteers to help run concessions next year – email or call Kaydene Hubert if interested, rabcconcessions@gmail.com or 303-845-2290.

Bingo needs your help, not just volunteering – but playing!  Come support RABC by playing Bingo on Wednesday nights at the Longmont Bingo Hall.  We do want to thank our volunteers & a huge thank you to Crystal Behrens, Lenore Jagerson, & Karen Gray for being dedicated Games Managers.

Put on your dancing shoes!  RABC is excited to bring you “Dancing with the Silver Creek Stars” on March 28, 2015, mark your calendars now, you won’t want to miss this!  We are looking for nominations/volunteers to be the “Silver Creek Stars”.  Please contact Kaydene Hubert if you want to nominate a staff member or if you are a staff member who would like to dance.  We are also looking for volunteers to help with this event, it will be a lot of fun, contact Kaydene if you are able to help ( rabcpresident@gmail.com or 303-845-2290).  More details to come!!

After Prom is looking for committee members.  Yes, it is 6 months away, but planning needs to start now.  After Prom is a safe & fun place for our students to hang out after the dance.  Without volunteers, we won’t be able to provide this event for our students.  Contact any of the RABC Board Members if you want to help.

Membership is low – only 59 families are members of RABC.  You can join today for only $25!  RABC was able to help cover the costs of some large expenses this Fall, we granted a total of $9300 to help Football, Swimming, Tennis, Cross Country, & Dance.  This is not possible without the help of membership.  Get your donation in before the end of the year.

RABC now is on Facebook ( Silver Creek RABC ) & Twitter ( @SilverCreekRABC ) “Like” us & “Follow” us to get the latest updates!

Reminder that our next meeting is a week earlier due to the Thanksgiving Break, join us on November 17th at 6:30 in the Library.  Hope to see you all there!

This will be the first in a series of meetings designed to familiarize students with the process of applying to FRCC while giving them valuable information to prepare them for the transition from High School.   Topics will include:

How do I apply?

Choosing a program of study

Degree options (Certifications, guaranteed transfer to 4-year colleges, etc.)

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Timing and Deadlines

Required placement testing or using your ACT scores

Academic advising and assistance in registering for classes

This is a great opportunity for students to begin gathering information about their next step in education with Front Range Community College!

Counselors recently visited 9th grade Social Studies classes and presented information on graduation credit requirements, overall tips for success in high school, the importance of grades, and how to build a strong resume for college.  A link to the presentation is included here...

The SCHS Counselors recently visited senior English classes and presented information on the college application process.  The presentation covered a variety of topics including college visitation programs, requesting letters of recommendation, college essays, procedure for submitting transcripts, application due dates & timelines, searching for scholarships, and various resources to help them through this often arduous process.  An outline of the presentation, which includes several live links to pertinent websites, is attached here.  Senior Checklist.

Students who took the PSAT test on Saturday, October 18th should expect to receive their results sometime in December.  Score reports will include critical reading, math, and writing skills scores; score ranges; national percentiles; and Selection Index.  National Merit Scholarship Corporation uses the Selection Index as an initial screen to determine eligibility for its scholarship program.

The Boettcher Foundation Scholarship application is now open to all students, regardless of their academic background.

Since 1952, the Boettcher Foundation has awarded nearly $60 million in undergraduate scholarships to many of Colorado’s best and brightest students.  The merit-based awards provide what is essentially a full-ride to any 4-year institution in Colorado.

The Boettcher Foundation Scholarship is extremely competitive and has a rigorous application process.  The application deadline is October 21st so time is of the essence!  We encourage all interested seniors to review the Selection and Eligibility Criteria and the Frequently Asked Questions sections on Boettcher Foundation Scholarship website to help determine if you are interested in applying.

Your email will not be used for any other reason.
