ATTENDANCE INFORMATION

TO EXCUSE AN ABSENCE – please contact Lois Davis at 720-494-3721 or her direct line: 720-494-3738,  or via email:  davis_lois@svvsd.org.  Be sure to include the student’s first and last name as well as the date and reason for the absence. The absence must be called in or reported by email within 48 hours of the absence in order to be excused.  After 48 hours, absences can only be excused by the student’s assistant principal.

TAKING YOUR STUDENT OUT OF SCHOOL DURING THE SCHOOL DAY–  Any student who needs to leave during the school day should bring a signed note to the attendance window before school (or you can email a request to davis_lois@svvsd.org) indicating the time you would like him/her to be excused. The student will receive a pink pass to give to the teacher for the class from which the student will be leaving early.  Students should always sign out at the attendance window before they leave.  You can meet your child at the attendance window or tell him/her to sign out and meet you outside.  The attendance clerk will use the note to excuse the student in Infinite Campus.  If the absence is a last-minute appointment, call the office as soon as possible so your student can pick up a pass during passing period.  We know that emergencies arise and want to make the pick-up as easy as possible.  Planning ahead limits classroom disruption.

Extended absences (vacation) – There is an “Extended Leave of Absence” form students should submit prior to leaving for an extended time.  Forms are only needed if a student will be absent for more than 3 days.  This form allows teachers to document any assignments a student will be missing and their current grade in class.  Parents and students are required to sign the form, and after teachers have added grades/homework, students must get signatures from administration and return the form to the attendance clerk.

Health office visits- Students who are not feeling well need to let their teacher know so the students can be excused to visit the health office.  Students leaving school from the health office can sign themselves out and meet parents outside.  Parents/Guardians have 48 hours to excuse absences.  We strongly encourage students to contact their parents from the health office and not from the classroom.

Infinite Campus Tutorial

Infinite Campus is a great resource for parents to check grades, homework assignments, attendance, fees, and much more.  Click here for more information.  If you are having trouble logging in to Infinite Campus or RevTrak, our Help Desk can help.  Contact them at 303-702-7730.

Low Cost Health Insurance

Students who are 18 and graduating may be eligible for FREE and LOW-COST HEALTH INSURANCE until their 19th birthdays! This health insurance is available through Medicaid and CHP+ and enrollment occurs right here through St Vrain Valley School District.  Once children turn 18 and are no longer in school, Medicaid no longer counts parent income towards the child’s eligibility!  Please call The Healthy Kids Initiative at 720-722-1454 to see if your kids qualify today!

CAPSTONE PROJECTS

Dear Silver Creek Parents and Students,

My name is McKenzie Peila and I am a senior in the Silver Creek Leadership Academy. For my Capstone Project, I am raising awareness and funds for the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado. As a final push to raise more money, I am hosting a flamingo decorating party at Silver Creek High on Saturday, April 23rd from 9-1:30 AM. This is where clubs, sports teams, performing arts groups, and even individual seniors can decorate a flamingo that represents them. It costs $20 to make a flamingo if you sign up before Friday April 22nd, and $30 if you pay the day of. All proceeds will benefit the Wild Animal Sanctuary. Attached is a link to some examples of painted flamingos and ideas of how you can decorate your flamingo. If you love arts and crafts, this is a fun way to engage in that and show your Raptor pride! Please contact me at peila.mckenz04@svvsd.org if you are interested. Thank you!

Silver Creek Spring Assessment Schedule Calendar CMAS, PSAT, ACT, AP

Dear Silver Creek Students and Parents,

Normally the middle of March has included two weeks of state assessments.  Those assessments will happen in the middle of April for 2016 and there are far fewer of them.  Here’s what it will look like at each grade level:

Seniors:  No testing.

Juniors:  Take the ACT on Tuesday, April 19th, 7:30-11:30.  Take three CMAS science tests on Friday, April 22nd.

Sophomores:  Take the PSAT on Tuesday, April 19th, 7:30-11:30.

Freshmen:  Take three CMAS/PARCC language arts tests and three CMAS/PARCC math tests over two days:  April 12th and 15th.

During the freshman assessments on April 12th and 15th, sophomores, juniors, and seniors will attend regular classes.

On April 19th, while juniors and sophomores test, no other classes will run (all teachers are needed to proctor the ACT/PSAT).  Regular classes resume for all students at noon.

Normal classes will run for freshmen, sophomores, and seniors while juniors take the three CMAS science tests on April 22nd.  Juniors will be dismissed for lunch after testing at 12:15 and do not need to return for their 8th Block class.

The complete assessment schedule can also be found on the SCHS website, and reminders for freshmen will be sent on Monday, April 11.

Silver Creek has established itself as one of the top 5% of all schools in the nation because our students show up to demonstrate their learning on the state tests and Advanced Placement tests.  Our students’ good-faith efforts on the state assessments also provide us with important data to gauge how well our classrooms are teaching the standards and the requisite skills students need in order to be successful in college and in most careers.  SCHS is certainly well known for producing strong leaders and great citizens who understand and routinely exhibit their commitment to community in all senses of the word.  We look forward to proving yet again on this year’s state tests that SC

APRIL 19th: ACT & PSAT-10

On April 19th, 2016, all 11th grade students will take the state-mandated ACT exam and all 10th grade students will take the state-mandated PSAT-10 exam. 10th & 11th grade will test in the morning while 9th & 12th graders will have a late start morning.  All students (grades 9, 10, 11 & 12) will attend classes after testing on the following abbreviated afternoon schedule:

Block 1 – 12:00-12:33

Block 2 – 12:39-1:12

Block 3 – 1:18-1:51

Block 4 – 1:57-2:30

On April 19th buses will run on their normal morning schedule for 10th & 11th graders.  A late bus run will deliver 9th & 12th graders  at 11:45 a.m. (on a 4-hour and 15-minute delay).

It is imperative that all 10th & 11th graders arrive on time and report promptly to their assigned test rooms (room assignments will be posted the week prior to testing)!  They should bring the following things with them:

Calculator

2 #2 Pencils with erasers

Student ID or another form of picture ID

Calculator

These exams are also a crucial piece of the college admissions process.  We appreciate your support to ensure that our students have a smooth and successful experience with these important exams.  Students will receive feedback on their performance for both the ACT and PSAT.  This valuable feedback will be used to target specific improvement strategies for our school and can be used for individual students who use the free SHMOOP program or participate in our test preparation program.  Thank you!

Thank you!

We look forward to proving yet again on this year’s state tests that SCHS is also among the best schools… anywhere… academically.

If you need additional information with regard to state assessments, please contact Eric Ottem and/or Erick Finnestead.

These exams are also a crucial piece of the college admissions process.  We appreciate your support to ensure that our students have a smooth and successful experience with these important exams.  Students will receive feedback on their performance for both the ACT and PSAT.  This valuable feedback will be used to target specific improvement strategies for our school and can be used for individual students who use the free SHMOOP program or participate in our test preparation program.  Thank you!

Concurrent Enrollment

Any students who will be juniors or seniors next fall are eligible to participate in the Concurrent Enrollment (CE) program, which allows qualified students to take up to two approved classes per semester at either Front Range or CU – Boulder.  The district pays for the tuition (not books or fees) for those classes, as long as students receive a grade of C or better. Students must meet with their respective counselor to make sure the classes will be approved by the school district and to get their SASID number to register for the college classes. More information about the Concurrent Enrollment program can be found at: http://svvsd.org/college-concurrent-enrollment

The deadline to register to participate in CE for the Fall semester is Friday, April 1st, and the link to the Concurrent Enrollment registration page is: https://workflow.stvrain.k12.co.us/ConcurrentEnrollment/LandingPage.html

Updated School Calendar

Check out the updated 15-16 Maroon/Silver SCHS Calendar.  There have been a few updates since the beginning of the year.  The calendar includes spring break through graduation.  Note the SCLA Evening of Excellence time change.  This event will now start at 6:00 p.m. instead of 6:30 p.m.

PROM

Capture prom

Silver Creek High School’s Golden Globes Prom will be held Saturday, April 16th at the Lionsgate Center in Lafayette (1055 S 112th St) from 7:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Think you have the best prom invite?  Send your entries to scpromposal@gmail.com.    This year’s judges will be four anonymous Silver Creek teachers.  The first place winner will receive two Prom tickets, with second place winning a boutonniere and corsage.

Please submit your entry by 5 p.m. Sunday, April 10th.  You will receive a confirmation email that your entry was received.  The winners will be announced Monday, April 11th during announcements.

Tickets are on sale during both lunches and in Ms. Lindsey’s office.  The cost is $40 per person or $75 per couple.  Tickets will NOT be sold at the door the night of Prom.

Fellas, as you think about gettin’ your formal on, Generation Tux has offered SCHS an option for tux rental for a flat $95 fee for jacket and pants – or a complete look for $150.  Please visit GenerationTux.com to see the wide variety of styles and colors.  Their website walks through every step of the process to create, view, share and edit outfits chosen from the highest quality of fabrics where you can build a unique look of your own.  Please see Ms. Lindsey if you are interested in ordering so you can receive the SCHS code. For every minimum jacket/pant rental of $95, you will receive a $10 discount and SCHS will receive a $5 donation from Generation Tux.  All orders needs to be submitted by this Saturday, April 2nd to avoid any late fees.

The tux will be shipped free, both ways, when you rent a tuxedo or suit. You’ll receive your outfit a full seven days prior to your event, with plenty of time for adjustments—if necessary.

All students and their parent must sign the dance expectation contract.  Click here for that contract.  Contracts will also be available during ticket sales.

All SCHS dances are contingent upon providing ample parent and staff chaperones.  At this point, we are in need of at least four parent volunteers to help with coat check, water bar or to chaperone.  Please contact Cindi Lindsey at lindsey_cindi@svvsd.org or 720-494-3728 if you are able to help or have any questions.

Athletics

Tryout dates for the 2016-17 Dance and Cheerleading teams have been scheduled!

Once the online registration forms have been completed and physicals turned in, athletes are given a clearance card.  Coaches will collect the clearance cards at the first tryout date.

You may NOT participate without a clearance card.

For registration questions, please contact Athletic Secretary, Melissa Lehman: 720-494-3729 or lehman_melissa@svvsd.org.

SCOPA Monthly Meeting:  April 13, 7:00 p.m. –  Choir Room

PARENTS & DIRECTORS*******This is an important fundraising meeting!  If you care about the future of “A” Wing, please attend this meeting.

SCOPA NEEDS BINGO VOLUNTEERS!!!  Bingo is how we fund the performing arts programs throughout the year.  Currently, we have a small number of families and individuals who are supporting this program on behalf of every student in the “A” Wing.  Most of these families volunteer their time nearly every week.  We need more volunteers so the currently very short list of volunteers can have a few weekends off during the year!  Without Bingo, student fees will go up and programs will suffer. We are in desperate need of volunteer support for our two weekly sessions.  Training is provided at each session (and trainings are fun!) so that everyone feels comfortable with each task.

ATTENDANCE INFORMATION

TO EXCUSE AN ABSENCE – please contact Lois Davis at 720-494-3721 or direct to 720-494-3738  or email  davis_lois@svvsd.org.  Be sure to include the student’s first and last name as well as the date and reason for the absence. The absence must be called in or reported via email within  48 hours of the absence in order to be excused.  Absences called in after 48 hours cannot be excused unless approved by the student’s assistant principal.

TAKING YOUR STUDENT OUT OF SCHOOL DURING THE SCHOOL DAY–  If students need to leave during the school day, please send him/her to school with a signed note (or email)  indicating the time you would like him/her to be excused. The student should bring the note to the attendance window before school starts.  The student will receive a pink pass to give to the teacher for the class he/she will be leaving early from.  Students leaving early should always sign out at the attendance window.  You can meet your child at the attendance window or tell him/her to sign out and meet you outside.  The attendance clerk will use the note to excuse the student in Infinite Campus.  If the absence is a last-minute appointment, call the office as soon as possible so your student can pick up a pass during passing period.  We know that emergencies arise and want to make the pickup as easy as possible.  Planning ahead limits classroom disruption.

Extended absences (vacation) – There is an “Extended Leave of Absence” form students can pick up prior to leaving for an extended time.
