Weekly Update for Friday, August 26, 2016
PARENTS, NOW IS THE TIME TO GET INVOLVED AND LEARN ABOUT OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT!
Leadership St. Vrain is seeking volunteer parent learners.

This obligation is only 2 hours a month (one meeting per month) and you will learn with other parents throughout the district. This is not necessarily an action committee but more so a learning committee.
More information can be found here: http://www.svvsd.org/leadership/committees/leadership-st-vrain . If you are interested please contact Mr. Finnestead or fill out the application online.

HOMECOMING CELEBRATION: HELP NEEDED
Raptor Booster Club needs LOTS of help with Homecoming since it is early this year – September 9th!! We are planning the celebration to take place right after the parade in the back of Silver Creek by the football/soccer fields. We will have an all school BBQ, games, inflatables, & maybe even a dunk tank!! Email or text (303-845-2290) Kaydene if you can help.
Studio 5 will be at Silver Creek on September 26th from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for picture retakes.
Parents, please help us make drop-off and pick-up easier using these requested measures.
Together we can make drop-off and pick-up easier, safer and quicker if you follow these requested measures:
Arrive to drop-off and pick-up earlier. School opens at 6:30 a.m. Students must leave by 2:45 unless in an approved activity. Do not park on Nelson Rd. awaiting to pick up; use the parking lot.
Enter and/or exit the parking lot from the Grandview Meadows Dr. driveway.
When picking up or dropping off, please do not perform U-turns; this blocks traffic, slows flow and creates potential accidents. It is especially important that no U-turns be performed once entering the back parking lot from Nelson Rd.
Students and visitors, please use the crosswalk at the roundabout only.
If traffic is moving, please pull over to the right at the next available space before stopping to drop off or pick up. This measure allows for continuous flow of traffic.
Since students are walking through the parking lot to the designated crosswalk, please don’t use the parking lot aisles as thru-ways. Instead, please use the roundabout where a crossing guard will hold students to help clear vehicle traffic quickly.
Our first Late Start of the new school year is Wednesday September 7th. School starts at 10:00 a.m. and morning buses will run 2 ½ hours later than normal pick-up time. Click here for the late start schedule.
October 5, 2016 Late Start Cancelled
The Colorado Department of Education has identified Wednesday, October 5 as the official statewide October Count Day for the 2016-2017 school year. To comply with this state mandate and ensure maximum attendance, St. Vrain Valley Schools will have a full day of school with a normal start time on Wednesday, October 5 in place of the previously scheduled late start day.
Your assistance with this important state requirement is greatly appreciated as funding for St. Vrain schools and the important resources for our students are directly impacted by the October 5 attendance numbers. For more information, please contact your school’s front office.
Thank you again for your ongoing support for our students and schools.

Attention Juniors/PSAT INFORMATION
The PSAT/NMSQT exam (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) will be offered here at Silver Creek on Wednesday, October 19th at 7:30 am. A precursor to the SAT, the PSAT/NMSQT is a great practice tool that provides excellent preparation for the important ACT and SAT college admission exams. The PSAT/NMSQT is also the sole measure used to determine National Merit Scholarship eligibility for juniors. This test is voluntary and not mandatory for all students.
There are a limited number of tests available and they will be sold on a first come first served basis. To register you must bring $17 (cash or check payable to Silver Creek High School) to Andy Yeomans in the Counseling Office. Registration for the PSAT/NMSQT will close on September 22nd so don’t delay.
Sophomores who would like to take the PSAT/NMSQT exam can sign up with Mr. Yeomans to be on a waiting list. If spots are available they will be notified in October.
Don’t wait! Register now for the PSAT/NMSQT!
