Attention Seniors:  Are you a candidate for a Boettcher Scholarship?

Since 1952, the Boettcher Foundation has awarded nearly $60 million in undergraduate scholarships to many of Colorado’s best and brightest students.  The merit-based awards provide what is essentially a full-ride to any 4-year institution in Colorado.

The Boettcher Foundation Scholarship is extremely competitive and has a rigorous application process.  The application deadline is October 21st so time is of the essence!  We encourage all interested seniors to review the Selection and Eligibility Criteria and the Frequently Asked Questions sections on Boettcher Foundation Scholarship website to help determine if you are interested in applying.

http://www.boettcherfoundation.org/home/scholarships/application-process/

There is also a helpful Competitiveness Quiz available to help you with this process:

https://www.boettcherscholarshiponline.org/competitive/?y=s

IMPORTANT:  If you are interested in applying for the Boettcher Foundation Scholarship, you MUST request to be invited by your specific Counselor.  To do this, please email or see them in person and be able to provide your full name and personal email address.  This will be the method by which you are contacted by the Boettcher Foundation. Your email will not be used for any other reason.

Parents, please help us make drop-off and pick-up easier using these requested measures.

Together we can make drop-off and pick-up easier, safer and quicker if you follow these requested measures:

  1. Arrive to drop-off and pick-up earlier.  School opens at 6:30 a.m.  Students must leave by 2:45 unless in an approved activity.  Do not park on Nelson Rd. awaiting to pick up; use the parking lot.

  2. Enter and/or exit the parking lot from the Grandview Meadows Dr. driveway.

  3. When picking up or dropping off, please do not perform U-turns; this blocks traffic, slows flow and creates potential accidents.  It is especially important that no U-turns be performed once entering the back parking lot from Nelson Rd.

  4. Students and visitors, please use the crosswalk at the roundabout only.

  5. If traffic is moving, please pull over to the right at the next available space before stopping to drop off or pick up.  This measure allows for continuous flow of traffic.

  6.  Since students are walking through the parking lot to the designated crosswalk, please don’t use the parking lot aisles as thru-ways.  Instead, please use the roundabout where a crossing guard will hold students to help clear vehicle traffic quickly.

ATTENDANCE INFORMATION

TO EXCUSE AN ABSENCE – please contact Lois Davis at 720-494-3721 or her direct line: 720-494-3738,  or via email:  davis_lois@svvsd.org.  Be sure to include the student’s first and last name as well as the date and reason for the absence. The absence must be called in or reported by email within 48 hours of the absence in order to be excused.  After 48 hours, absences can only be excused by the student’s assistant principal.

TAKING YOUR STUDENT OUT OF SCHOOL DURING THE SCHOOL DAY–  Any student who needs to leave during the school day should bring a signed note to the attendance window before school (or you can email a request to davis_lois@svvsd.org) indicating the time you would like him/her to be excused. The student will receive a pink pass to give to the teacher for the class from which the student will be leaving early.  Students should always sign out at the attendance window before they leave.  You can meet your child at the attendance window or tell him/her to sign out and meet you outside.  The attendance clerk will use the note to excuse the student in Infinite Campus.  If the absence is a last-minute appointment, call the office as soon as possible so your student can pick up a pass during passing period.  We know that emergencies arise and want to make the pick-up as easy as possible.  Planning ahead limits classroom disruption.

Extended absences (vacation) – There is an “Extended Leave of Absence” form students should submit prior to leaving for an extended time.  Forms are only needed if a student will be absent for more than 3 consecutive days.  This form allows teachers to document any assignments a student will be missing and their current grade in class.  Parents and students are required to sign the form, and after teachers have added grades/homework, students must get signatures from administration and return the form to the attendance clerk.

Health office visits- Students who are not feeling well need to let their teacher know so the students can be excused to visit the health office.  Students leaving school from the health office can sign themselves out and meet parents outside.  Parents/Guardians have 48 hours to excuse absences.  We strongly encourage students to contact their parents from the health office and not from the classroom.

IMPORTANT BUS INFORMATION

Attached you will find a MS Word Document that reiterates to parents that student bus passes are required to be stored and kept in a safe place over the summer to avoid their loss, and the subsequent cost of a replacement pass.  In addition, the letter also talks about the implementation of Zpass+, a notification system which sends time and location messages via phone text to parents when their student scans on and off the bus.  This is a great program that provides another level of safety and security for the students of SVVSD.  Parents are truly going to love this new functionality.  The system is currently active and ready for parents to sign up for an account and begin receiving these valuable text notifications.

Z Pass+ information – In an effort to better serve you, we are implementing a program called Z Pass+ this year.  This free program will allow parents to receive text and/or email notifications via their smart phone whenever their student scans on or off the bus.  This technology is invaluable, and provides an additional layer of safety and security for District students utilizing transportation services.  The following link has directions on how to sign up.

Please open the following link for more important bus information.

SAT Preparation Classes at Silver Creek

Second Semester

In order to prepare our students for success upon the college admissions and application process we will be providing SAT test preparation classes at Silver Creek High School.  This program is made available through a generous donation from Silver Creek Education Foundation.

Silver Creek High School will be offering a test prep class to juniors during second semester. Juniors will attend classes after school either once or twice a week. SAT Workshop with MindFish Boulder hosted at Silver Creek High School

Oct 1st and 8th, 2016

Founded in Boulder, Colorado, Mindfish has spent over 10 years helping thousands of high school students reach their goals on the SAT and ACT. Though standardized tests can seem very daunting, they are very predictable and therefore very coachable.

The Silver Creek Education Foundation is sponsoring a Mindfish SAT test prep workshop on Saturday, October 1 and Saturday, October 8, both starting at 8 a.m. at SCHS. The timing of these test dates are intentionally meant to also help our juniors with the PSAT that will be given on Wednesday, October 19. Both Mindfish SAT classes will be held at Silver Creek High School. The first Saturday will feature a timed practice. This test is an official practice test released by the College Board and is therefore an extremely realistic practice exam. It is given in an environment that is designed to mimic the conditions of test day and will take approximately 4 hours. Taking realistic practice tests is an essential piece of the test prep puzzle. The following Saturday will be spent with the students reviewing the test and offering testing strategies. Students will be given back their corrected test with answers. Students will be given a copy of Mindfish’s book, “The Right Way to Take the SAT” and essential strategies will be reviewed. This will take approximately 3 hours.

The cost of this course and all materials will be $75. We are also offering this course free of charge to students on free and reduced lunch. Please take the time to view www.mindfish.com for additional information.

Your email will not be used for any other reason.

Parents / Guardians-   Do you pay insurance? Have you received information back from a medical test? Have you taken part in a poll or read about their results? Then you are ready to come speak with students about statistics in the world.  On September 29 and September 30, AP Statistics will be doing the World Cafe. This is an opportunity for students to speak with adults about how statistics is used in the world. Students will be ready to talk about things they have learned from their summer reading and adults will be able to discuss their assessment of risk (to take the umbrella or not?), use of information to make decisions (to buy the extended warranty or not?), and impact of media reports (how is the economy really doing?).  Any adult willing to discuss how they make decisions in their personal or professional lives with a bent on how stats or probability influences that decision is welcomed.

Student Handbook iBook Edition: Student Handbook.

Infinite Campus Tutorial

Infinite Campus is a great resource for parents to check grades, homework assignments, attendance, fees, and much more.  Click here for more information.  If you are having trouble logging in to Infinite Campus or RevTrak, our Help Desk can help.  Contact them at 303-702-7730.

Approved Flyers For September
