The Front Range Center for Assault Prevention (CAP) seeks to prevent child assault by teaching children and adolescents to recognize and deal with potentially dangerous situations. CAP also prepares adults who are a part of the child’s community, (teachers and parents) to help children with this journey.
This presentation will be a comprehensive discussion of the following topics:
An overview of sexual assault issues & dynamics including:
- Definitions and prevalence of sexual assault
- Blame, denial, & lying
- Myths & Facts of Victims & Perpetrators
- Tips and Tools for parents regarding issues of safety

A UNIQUE COLLEGE PREPARATION EXPERIENCE FOR MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS
To all SVVSD High School Counselors:
From Nest to Wings is gearing up for our conference to be held on February 25th at Front Range Community Center (2121 Miller Drive, Longmont). Our faculty is preparing their sessions, registrations have begun to be received, and we are approaching the Early Bird Registration deadline (February 8th at 5 pm). Those who register under our Early Bird program access a lower registration fee.
We greatly appreciate your spreading the word about the benefits of mothers and daughters spending a day focused on the daughter’s future education. Today we will be dropping off more copies of our flyer and registration form to supplement the supplies you already have. We will also provide your school office with English and Spanish posters (which have been approved through the District) to be posted around your school. And, attached to this email is a draft of a statement that could be placed in your newsletters or on your websites to help us reach more students and parents from your school. Also attached is the flyer should you need to make more copies. Finally, should you wish more copies of any of the information about From Nest to Wings, please contact us and we will deliver such as soon as possible.
We are beginning to receive registrations and to award fee waivers (provided by our sponsors) to students and parents who wish assistance with the cost of attendance. Those families need only contact Kate Stratton Schulz (email@example.com). Our limited fee waivers will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
Also being distributed to the schools today are copies of the Gold Star Award Application. The Gold Star is four $500 award that will be presented as a part of the From Nest to Wings Conference. The deadline for the award application is February 3, 2017 at 5:00 pm. If further copies of the application are needed, students may go to the nesttowings.org website and download the application. In order to accommodate for all the schedules changes, second semester fees will be assigned to your student’s account by the end of day January 27. Please review each of your student’s classroom syllabus for potential fees. If your student has unpaid first semester fees, please take care of those as soon as possible. Fees will be reviewable and can be paid online with a credit card on RevTrak. You can also pay by check (made to SCHS) or cash (exact change) at the school. If your student dropped a class last semester make sure their books have been returned!
All teachers in the Mathematics Department offer help outside of class time. Please consult your student’s teacher via syllabus, website, or email to find out what time(s) s/he is available.
Silver Creek Tutoring Program
If you are having trouble in class (or are the parent/guardian of a student who is having trouble in class), visit the Silver Creek Tutoring Program Website to submit a request for a student tutor.
Spring sport registration is open! If you’re interested in baseball, girls golf, girls soccer, boys swimming, girls tennis and track and field, please sign up today! The deadline to register is Wednesday, February 22. The Spring season will start on Monday, February 27. All students interested in trying out/practicing on the 27th will need to complete the online registration forms and have a valid physical on file with Ms. Lehman. Once registration is complete, students will need to see Ms. Lehman for his/her clearance card. RAPTOR ACTIVITIES BOOSTER CLUB
We hope you are ready and excited about this new year, I know we are! We have some new things lined up for this year and will be sharing them with you at our meeting on January 30th at 6:30pm in the Library. Parent Reps we would like you to invite members of your teams to come to our meetings starting this month we will be having a friendly competition between teams, you won’t want to miss out!!
At our January meeting, you will have the opportunity to meet and hear from 3 of our Silver Creek Coaches. We will have Rob Johnson (new boys/girls soccer coach), Craig Sherman (new track coach), and Debbie Stewart (seasoned girls/boys swim coach), who will be attending and sharing a little about themselves with us. This is a great opportunity for Silver Creek parents to get to know our amazing coaches that we have at this school. Each month we will invite different coaches to attend. We will be setting goals and discussing the vision for this year and years to come. How can we improve on what we are doing as a booster club? How can we encourage more of our Silver Creek parents with SCLA & Athletic students become more involved? What do we stand for? What do we want to be known for?
Right now our Bingo fundraiser is in jeopardy, we are in need of at least 2 Games Managers to be in place by March 1st. If we do not have this, we will not be able to continue with the Bingo sessions on Wednesday nights. Bingo has been our largest fundraiser since it started in 2007. Did you know that it takes 8 volunteers weekly to run Bingo? Did you know that Bingo runs 12 months out of the year? This means that Bingo needs 416 volunteers a year to run. Out of those volunteers, every week they need 1 State licensed games manager, 2 cashiers, & 1 caller – all of these positions take extra training. Since Bingo started late 2007, it has brought in over $316,000 to RABC, with these funds we have been able to purchase many items such as, the marquee on the side of the school, wrestling mats, padded chairs in the gym, volleyball standards, track & cross country equipment, tennis nets, repairs to the weight room, football helmets, baseball/softball helmets, warm gear for cold weather sports, fencing, soccer nets & goals, mascot uniform, run through banner, mirrors, golf bags, plus so much more. Without Bingo (or other fundraisers to supplement the funds) we will not be able to help purchase items listed above or hold great student events such as the Homecoming Tailgate & After Prom. Come to the meeting on January 30th and be a part of the discussion on the future of Bingo and share in ideas for other fundraisers.

* March 3rd – Silver Creek Talent Show 7:00pm in the Auditorium – encourage your students to audition.
* March 4th – MardiGras – Come support our awesome Silver Creek Education Foundation at this fun event.
* March 22nd – Chipotle Fundraiser – we are coming together with the SCEF on this & funds will be split between the 2 groups, these funds will go towards conference dinners for the SC staff.
* April 8th – After Prom 11pm-2am at Silver Creek in the F Wing.
* April 29th – Inaugural Raptor Run 5K at Silver Creek
There are also several SCLA Capstone projects to watch for and to support. Information on those will be handed out at the January 30th meeting.
We only have 3 more meetings after this month…
February 27th – Guest speakers will be SC Coaches & Mr. Finnestead sharing with us about the new building plans for SC.
March 20th – A week early due to Spring Break – Guest speakers will be SC Coaches & Officer Staci Stallings

Send Check or Cash
You can always bring money personally or send it with your student. Please place it in an envelope marked clearly with your student’s name, their ID #, the $ amount and the check #. Turn in prepaid deposits to the cafeteria cashier(s) or school office.
TO EXCUSE AN ABSENCE – please contact Lois Davis at 720-494-3721 or her direct line: 720-494-3738, or via email: email@example.com. Be sure to include the student’s first and last name as well as the date and reason for the absence. The absence must be called in or reported by email within 48 hours of the absence in order to be excused. After 48 hours, absences can only be excused by the student’s assistant principal. Students may not be excused from a class and remain on campus. While on campus, students must attend their regularly scheduled classes or be counted “unexcused”.
TAKING YOUR STUDENT OUT OF SCHOOL DURING THE SCHOOL DAY– Any student who needs to leave during the school day should bring a signed note to the attendance window before school (or you can email a request to firstname.lastname@example.org) indicating the time you would like him/her to be excused. The student will receive a pink pass to give to the teacher for the class from which the student will be leaving early. Students should always sign out at the attendance window before they leave. You can meet your child at the attendance window or tell him/her to sign out and meet you outside. The attendance clerk will use the note to excuse the student in Infinite Campus. If the absence is a last-minute appointment, call the office as soon as possible so your student can pick up a pass during passing period. We know that emergencies arise and want to make the pick-up as easy as possible. Planning ahead limits classroom disruption.
ATTENDANCE POLICY UPDATE
Students should not be excused from one class in order to go somewhere else in the school building or otherwise remain on school grounds. Parents, please do not excuse your child from a class in order for him/her to avoid a test for which he/she isn’t prepared, or to avoid a particular class he/she doesn’t feel like attending that day. Students who are excused from school by a parent should not be on campus and may lose up to 50% credit on any assessment they miss while avoiding a class to “work in the library” or to try to catch up in another class. Please feel free to call the administration for any clarification of this policy.
Extended absences – There is an “Extended Leave of Absence” form students should submit prior to leaving for an extended time. Forms are only needed if a student will be absent for more than 3 consecutive days. This form allows teachers to document any assignments a student will be missing and their current grade in class. Parents and students are required to sign the form, and after teachers have added grades/homework, students must get signatures from administration and return the form to the attendance clerk. Absences may go unexcused if a student does not return the form to the attendance clerk.
Health office visits- Students who are not feeling well need to let their teacher know so the students can be excused to visit the health office. Students leaving school from the health office can sign themselves out and meet parents outside. Parents/Guardians have 48 hours to excuse absences. We strongly encourage students to contact their parents from the health office and not from the classroom.

IMPORTANT BUS INFORMATION
Attached you will find a MS Word Document that reiterates to parents that student bus passes are required to be stored and kept in a safe place over the summer to avoid their loss, and the subsequent cost of a replacement pass. In addition, the letter also talks about the implementation of Zpass+, a notification system which sends time and location messages via phone text to parents when their student scans on and off the bus. This is a great program that provides another level of safety and security for the students of SVVSD. Parents are truly going to love this new functionality. The system is currently active and ready for parents to sign up for an account and begin receiving these valuable text notifications.
Z Pass+ information – In an effort to better serve you, we are implementing a program called Z Pass+ this year. This free program will allow parents to receive text and/or email notifications via their smart phone whenever their student scans on or off the bus. This technology is invaluable, and provides an additional layer of safety and security for District students utilizing transportation services. The following link has directions on how to sign up.

Important Bus Pass Information for Parents of Students Riding the Bus
Students only receive one free bus pass. For a replacement pass, please contact the Bus Pass coordinator by sending an email to bus email@example.com or calling 303-702-7540. The replacement cost for lost, stolen and/or mutilated bus passes is $5.00 and shows up as fee under your student’s name in Infinite Campus. New students to the district or new to riding the bus may pick up their bus passes at the Main Office of the school they will be attending.
