ACT Test Preparation – Strongly encouraged for Juniors

The ACT is a crucial ingredient in the college admissions process!  Because curriculum, course expectations, and grades vary from high school to high school, college admissions departments need an additional measure to help them to determine an applicant’s true capability and probability for success at their institutions.  All four year colleges and universities require ACT (or SAT) scores in order to qualify an applicant for admission.

Silver Creek will administer a mandatory official ACT test for all juniors on April 28th, 2015.  Students may choose to take additional ACT tests but the 4/28 test will be the only one offered at Silver Creek.  Prior to this date, we will offer a full length practice exam on the February 4th late start. On the March 4th late start students will receive their practice test score back and get a free hour long strategy session from Brad Wolfenden from Princeton Review. There will also be the opportunity to get some specific content area test preparation and support. Many students and parents inquire about additional resources that might help them to maximize their performance on this high stakes exam.  We have compiled some applicable links below.  These resources vary from free online test strategies, tips, and sample questions to more intensive, fee based, individual or group classes designed to prepare students for optimal scores.  Please take some time to review these resources with your juniors and encourage them to be proactive in their preparation for this “all important” piece to the college admission puzzle!

Prior to this date, we will offer a full length practice exam in February along with some specific content area test preparation and support.

Canned Food Drive

Silver Creek Student Senate is currently collecting canned food donations.  Items can be dropped off with any of your students teachers or the Main Office until Wednesday December 17th.  For every five cans a student donates they will receive a raffle ticket to be eligible for prizes.  Our goal is to pack 10 boxes to benefit the Community Food Share.

                                             FREE HOLIDAY GIFT WRAPPING!!!

On Wednesday December 17th, from 5-7, a band of elves (National Honor Society students!) will be in the commons to wrap any and all of your gifts. Just drop them off with any boxes that you may have and the elves will take care of the rest while you run other errands or take in some other Silver Creek activities that evening.

If you felt so inclined, it would be greatly appreciated if you could make a donation to A Woman’s Work, a local non-profit that provides timely financial support to women (and their families) that live or work in the SVVSD attendance area. Please contact Michael Sardinia at sardinia_michael@svvsd.org with any questions you may have.

Prior to this date, we will offer a full length practice exam in March along with some specific content area test preparation and support.

Silver Creek will administer a mandatory official ACT test for all juniors on April 23rd, 2015.  Students may choose to take additional ACT tests but the 4/23 test will be the only one offered at Silver Creek.  Prior to this date, we will offer a full length practice exam in March along with some specific content area test preparation and support.

Counseling News

Seniors who may be considering Front Range Community College as their next step in education beyond Silver Creek are encouraged to consult with their counselor.  We can arrange an individual meeting between you and a FRCC admissions representative to discuss the application process, programs of study, degree options, financial aid and scholarships, timing & deadlines, required placement testing, academic advising, and even assistance in registering for classes!  Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate too!

Transcripts: Seniors who need transcripts sent for their college applications need to fill out a Transcript Request form before transcripts can be sent. They are available in the Counseling Office.  Transcripts are $2. If the student is using a Common Application, they only need to fill out one form for all schools on the Common Application. Please also be sure to assign your Counselor as a recommender on your application. Transcripts are not sent out during Holiday Breaks, so please plan ahead.

TCAP scores have been delivered to students in their English/Language Arts classes.  If you have not received the scores, contact the Counseling Office.

Kindness for Kids will be distributing free gifts for children to families who would could use assistance. Applications are available in the main office or by downloading the application at www.kindness-for-kids.org Gift distribution is Dec. 20 at the Boulder County Fair Grounds.

If students/families need to meet with Counselors, please make an appointment prior to your visit. Due to our increasing student count, it allows for Counselors to plan accordingly.
