Thanks to Barb, our video guru, we now have a great video tutorial on how to fill out your SVVSD Local Scholarships. Check it out on the SHSCounseling1 YouTube channel, or you can watch it here!
Remember most of the scholarships are due at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 26 to Lavonne in the Counseling office. We don’t have school on Friday, so don’t knock on our door – we won’t be home.
Sometimes it just isn’t working here at SHS and you need a change of scene. If you’re interested in checking out the SVVSD alternative high school, Olde Columbine, you need to get your application in by February 13, 2015.

Happy Tuesday Falcons! As if you did’t have enough opportunities to get financial aid, I’m going to offer four more options. Check out the Scholarships page for three new scholarships (Boulder County Latina League scholarship, Sheriff’s of Colorado Scholarship, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon – CU Boulder Chapter Scholarship).
Here is the fourth option for your Tuesday. The reason this one is posted here is because it’s due on Monday, February 2, 2015! That’s only five days from now! But if you’re motivated you can make it happen. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Rotary have an Ethics Scholarship for $5,000 – you can’t pass that up.

Your competition is fierce but the good news is you’re only fighting 300 of your peers as opposed to 3,000 (or more) for the same funds. The even better news is that these scholarships cover all different types of students, so everyone has a good chance of earning one!
The scholarships are also listed on the Scholarships page of this blog – they’re highlighted in bold to make them even more eye catching for you.

Interested in an amazing opportunity for first generation, under-represented STEM students to attend a summer session at Colorado School of Mines.
Future Juniors and Seniors (current Sophomores and Juniors) to apply for Colorado School of Mines Summer Multicultural Engineering Training Program (SUMMET).
Deadline to apply is April 1, 2015.
SUMMET is a science and engineering program combining course work, hands-on projects, industry tours, sporting activities and social events. It is an excellent stepping stone to the lifestyle and challenges of college. Students from across the nation will stay in Mines’ residence halls, experience life as a college student, and receive instruction in trigonometry & calculus, chemistry, geology, computer science, physics and basic to advanced engineering concepts.
We’re looking for high achieving students who are traditionally underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), who excel in math and science, are leaders amongst their peers, and may possibly be first-generation college-bound students. We provide room & board – including all meals, course materials and access to all off-campus events.
