March’s Healthy Hero, Jennifer Tatham

IMG_2865Jen, your commitment to fitness is inspiring. What does your personal fitness routine look like?

Saturday’s include either a circuit class or a run depending on my kids’ schedules. Sundays are a long run day. Monday nights I attend a barbell strength class. Tuesday’s are my rest day. Wednesday’s I try to get a run done or yoga. Thursday’s at 5:15 am I am at the gym for an early morning weight and cardio class. Friday nights I play in a volleyball league.

What are some things you do to prioritize healthy living?

  • Plan my menu for the day.
  • Schedule my exercise routine weekly.
  • Eat breakfast!
  • I wear my garmin everyday to make sure I get all my steps in.

What are your favorite healthy foods?

I love salads! They are easy to make and they fill me up. I have oatmeal with blueberries every morning during the school week. My favorite snack is peanut butter and apples!

What would you like to see in our schools to promote healthy living for SVVSD employees?

I would love to see an exercise class offered for teachers either in the morning or after school. Or, maybe a stipend for people who would want to lead an exercise class at their school for the teachers. Exercise is proven to lower blood pressure and eliminate stress. If there is something offered at the school, the chance of it getting done is far better than trying to do it once one gets home.

Jen, what would be your Personal Healthy Tip?

Find an activity that you love to do. Make time for it, no matter what your schedule is. Talk about it with your family and make sure they understand and support you.
